Chandigarh administration dedicated startup policy, To meet the requirements of budding local entrepreneur, the UT Administrations will soon introduce a startups policy to helps them establish their own business in the city. Currently, startups in the city must register on the Central Government portals.

We are interested in creating a strong ecosystems to promote innovation in companies. Chandigarh will soon introduce its own startups policy, a dedicated hub, startup funds with a corpus of Rs 50 crore and more, said UT Advisor Dharam Pal, while speaking at the Chandigarh Startup Session organized by the IIC. North Region as part of its iconn 2022 flagship initiative today.
The Advisor said that a draft outline had already been published to invite comment & suggestions from interested parties. We are analyzing data from the economic census, private research platform, ministerial press releases, the official Startup India portals, industry reports, media articles and opinion from key stakeholders to come up with a policy better than before, so that the government effort to transform Chandigarh economy through entrepreneurship policies will not fail to live up to the expectations of its startups, he added.
The adviser claimed that many entrepreneurs in the city had started successful startup like Flipkart, which became one of the first unicorns in the country. The city of just 10 lakh is home to some 558 startups, he added.
Chandigarh startup ecosystem
Delivering the keynote address, Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of the Center of Excellence in Startups and Entrepreneurship at CII, and co-founder of Infosys Ltd, said: It is the collective responsibility of the industry, the high net worth individuals angel investors , academic institutions and the government to work together to build a strong startup ecosystem in any state or city. We need to encourage startups in new and innovative areas along with strengthening and growing the startup ecosystem in Chandigarh. UT will also have to work with Punjab and Haryana to effectively utilize resources in surrounding areas.
The success of today young entrepreneur will be the key to India’s transformation. Startups, technology and innovation are the three pillars on which Chandigarh will focus its efforts to build a startup ecosystem. Together with Startup India, we must give the slogan of Standup India, and therein lies our strength, shared Hargunjit Kaur, Secretary Industries, UT.
Highlighting CII’s role in promoting start-ups, Rajiv Kaila, Chairman of CII Chandigarh and Director of Kaila Engineering Pvt Ltd, said To enable cooperation between companies and start-ups to flourish, the IIC has taken some specific initiatives, including the creation of a Center of Excellence COE for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Startups in Hyderabad. The CII is currently working with 90 startups, directly and indirectly, to help them with 5x revenue growth. The COE will also give master classes for government officials on how to work with startups.
