The social media network owned by Elon Musk, known as “X” after rebranding from Twitter, has debuted a number of new features, the most notable of which is the ability to make and receive audio and video calls.
These capabilities are currently only available to users who have an iOS device and are subscribers to X Premium, which was once known as Twitter Blue.
However, X has stated that it plans to make these functionalities available to Android users soon.
Launches Video Call
“We are introducing a revolutionary means of communication on X, one that encompasses both Audio and Video Calling,” says the notice posted on the platform. With plans to make them available to Android users soon, these functionalities are currently easily accessible for iOS users.
Remember that you can still make and receive calls on X even if you do not have a premium subscription. As part of this flexibility, you may choose who is allowed to make calls to your account. You can adjust this option by navigating to your Direct Messaging settings.
You can take calls from individuals you follow or have in your contact book by default. There is a requirement, though: in order to activate the call feature, the caller and the recipient must have had at least one Direct Message interaction.
How To Make Calls
1. Navigate to the Direct Messages area.
2. Select a chat room that already exists and initiate a new discussion.
3. Select the phone icon and tap the corresponding icons to indicate whether you would want a “Audio call” or a “Video call.”
4. Your call recipient will be notified right away, and if they are not available to answer, they will receive a missed call notification.
As part of X’s larger transformation plan, Elon Musk had already made vague references to the creation of these voice and video calling functionalities back in August. The goal of this makeover is to turn the outdated Twitter into a feature-rich, versatile platform. These new communication tools are designed to work flawlessly with a variety of devices, such as Mac computers, conventional PCs, Android smartphones, and iPhones.
One characteristic that sets them apart is that they can be used without a standard phone number. Consequently, X wants to provide a flexible and user-friendly communication platform that can accommodate a wide variety of users.
